Mission Statement
Personal Statement: Life is about creating yourself, not necessary finding yourself. The Charlie that I hope to create will change the world for the better with the knowledge I hope to obtain from Creighton University. I always want to stand by my morals, even if I am put into a sticky situation where others may judge me, which is one of my biggest fears. To be completely honest, I would like to keep everything the same in my mission statement because I believe this is how I strive to live life everyday. Some additional points I would like to add about creating myself would be strive in all ways to create a better version of myself. I think this is very important because I don’t want to change my personality and change into somebody that I’m not, but rather make a better version of who I currently am. I am a strong believer in the idea that we can always improve and there is no such thing as perfection, but we can always aim to try to be perfect. As my freshman year winds down, and as I reflect on who I am as a person now and how it has changed throughout the year, there are only two things that I can pinpoint that have changed for the better. To begin with, since our Father Lannon seminar and attending a Jesuit private university, I have learned to attempt in finding God in all things, both personally and academically. This has increased my spirituality, for I was never really spiritual before attending Creighton University. The second part of me that I believe has changed throughout the year was recognizing my true potential in leadership rules and the importance of being a title-less leader, such as MJ Kirk reiterated in his seminar. Before this year I felt as if I always sought attention while leading a group, but MJ taught me the importance of being a leader and not always receiving recognition for what you are contributing, but as long as you understand the change you are making in others lives, that is the ultimate prize. In addition to my last statement, my values have changed throughout the year. Not only have my spiritual values of being a catholic changed, but the value of collaboration as well. Living in a living and learning community has taught me to seek help and to value others knowledge, for I don’t know everything and everyone specializes in different things and by collaborating with others, you and whomever is helping you can create a better version of yourself and there self.
