ProjectPart VI: Leadership Plan
Section I: (The Dream) As I am walking across the stage to get my diploma, hopefully in 2018, there would be several different leadership roles that I would hold on campus throughout the prior years leading up to graduation. To begin with, one of my biggest high school regrets was not being involved in student government, so I took the initiative to become involved with IRHG. I was fortunate to land a major role within IRHG, which was Kiewit Hall president. I was able to learn more about my leadership style and was able to network with upper classman, but I came to realize that I don’t want to continue being a resident life leader, but rather become a leader on my Club Hockey Team. Following my first year on the Creighton Club Hockey Team, I recognized where the team needed my personal strengths in accounting and financial planning. I then took the initiative to ask the club president if I could take on some of his roles while he was studying abroad in China for the semester. Some of the roles that I took on was reserving ice times, creating and ordering new jerseys, assisting in planning the game schedule, and creating an extensive budget request to lower dues. I am striving to become the leader of the Creighton Club Hockey Team, such as becoming the standing president and captain. In addition to becoming a leader on my club hockey team, I want to try to increase my service with Completely Kids. I have come to realize that I can serve as a college student role model for the 4th graders that I visit each week at Completely Kids. I personally believe the kids have made a bigger impact on then I have on them. They have made me realize how fortunate I have been to receive the education that I got growing up, and I am trying as hard as I can to return the favor. Every time I show up and they yell my name and give me hugs, It makes my day because they make me feel wanted and loved. I want to give as much as I can to this organization throughout the next 3 years. Section II: (The Approach) Now the exciting part! The steps I need to take in order to achieve some of my leadership goals, which were becoming the Creighton Club Hockey President/Captain and volunteer more at Completely Kids. To begin with, I have begun taking steps in becoming the Creighton Club Hockey President. When the captain of the hockey team, Owen Kane, announced that he will be leaving for China this semester, I asked him right away what I can do to help. He gave me a large amount of work; such as restructuring the funding request excel spreadsheet, which I in turn sought out help from my professor. A leadership concept that has been reiterated in seminar and at the NZ table has been to seek out help when you need it, for both parties involved mutually benefit. I sought out help from my accounting teacher in how to structure my excel spreadsheet to optimize the amount of money CSU will fund the team. Another way where I applied a leadership concept that I have learned was to be a servant leader and put others in front of you. A wise man once told me that there is always 15 minutes for friend. If anyone of the 58 other individuals sought out help from me, there will always be time for them. A way I can enhance being a servant leader to become more involved in the surrounding Omaha community, such as through service with Completely Kids. A way that I can approach getting more hours with Completely Kids would be by contacting Joey Kimes and asking if I can join other service groups attending the same location next year. Section III: (The Connection) To be completely honest, I never actually have created an official RSP Academic Plan. On the other hand, I have laid out which classes I need to take for the next four years in order to complete my majors and do study abroad. Aside from my 4-year plan, my mission statements aligns well with the my leadership plan. In order to show how my mission statement influences my leadership plan, I am going to restate my personal mission statement: Life is about creating yourself, not necessary finding yourself. The Charlie that I hope to create will change the world for the better with the knowledge I hope to obtain from Creighton University. I always want to stand by my morals, even if I am put into a sticky situation where others may judge me, which is one of my biggest fears. In order to create myself and become the greatest version of myself would be by following my leadership plan of seeking for help and pushing myself to serve the surrounding community, for the reason that both parties benefit from these actions. Secondly, while serving as the Creighton Club Hockey “Treasurer”, I want to remain as transparent as possible because then there will be no unethical money situations occurring behind the scenes. |
